A Reminder from MSAC

A public open house and hearing is set for Monday, Nov. 9, 2015 in Niobrara regarding the Nebraska Department of Road’s proposed Highway 12, Niobrara East and West project.

The meeting is hosted by the US Army Corps of Engineers – Omaha District. The public is invited to provide comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act permit application for the Highway 12 project.

The meeting will be held at the Niobrara secondary school – east gym. The open house starts at 4:30 pm and runs until 6 pm when the hearing will then start.

Look for sedimentation to be a topic at this meeting, according to the Missouri Sedimentation Action Coalition.

“In visiting with the public, there is concern about the investment outlined for the road while the real, on-going root problem of sedimentation in and around Lewis and Clark Lake is not being addressed. Questions may come up concerning the project timeline and whether any options exist when new information is released regarding addressing the accumulating sediment in Lewis and Clark Lake in the next year or sooner.  Information expected includes a new dredging cost analysis and other research,” said Sandy Stockholm, MSAC executive director
